Neural Stem and Progenitor Cell Research

Neural stem cells have the capacity to proliferate, self-renew, and produce a large number of progeny that can differentiate into neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. See MoreThey have been identified in nearly all regions of the developing mouse, rat and human central nervous system (CNS) and in specialized neurogenic regions of the mature CNS. Recently, malignant multipotent neural stem cell-like cells, or brain tumor stem cells (BTSCs) , have been isolated from different grades (low and high) and types of brain cancers. They have the same characteristics as neural stem cells. Neural stem and progenitor cells can either be cultured as free-floating aggregates (neurospheres) or as an adherent monolayer of cells. Our media support both techniques and are available in formulations for human or mouse and rat neural stem cells isolated from normal and tumor tissues. These standardized media enable efficient expansion of neural stem cells in culture, while maintaining self-renewal, proliferation and differentiation potential.
