TGF-β1 has been used for:
hPSC CULTURE MAINTENANCE
● Use TGF-β1 together with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) to support the culture of undifferentiated human embryonic stem (ES) cells and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells (Amit et al. Biol Reprod, 2004).
EXOGENOUS CELL SIGNALING
● Regulate a variety of functions, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and metabolism (Massagué Nat Rev Mol Cell Biol, 2000; McDowell et al. Curr Biol, 1997).
IMMUNE CELL HOMEOSTASIS
● Modulate B cell responses and mediate immunosuppressive effects on T cells and neutrophils (Letterio & Roberts Annu Rev Immunol, 1998).

Figure 1. Human Recombinant TGF-beta 1 Is Bioactive
The biological activity of Human Recombinant TGF-beta 1 was tested by the ability to inhibit IL-4-induced HT-2 cell proliferation. Cell proliferation was measured after 2 days of culture using a fluorometric assay method. The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the growth factor at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum. The EC50 in the above example is 0.17 ng/mL.
