Sjogren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that affects the exocrine glands, mainly the lachrymal and salivary, but it can also affect other parts of the body. Cells from donors with Sjogren’s syndrome may be used to study the molecular mechanism of the disease. Product options include fresh leukopaks, frozen mononuclear cells (MNCs or PBMCs), and plasma. Leukopaks are an enriched leukapheresis product consisting of a large number of single-donor MNCs, collected using the Spectra Optia® Apheresis System, with acid-citrate-dextrose solution A (ACDA) as the anticoagulant. Primary human MNCs are isolated from PB leukapheresis samples using density gradient separation or red blood cell lysis and cryopreserved in animal component-free CryoStor®CS10 medium (Catalog #07930). All PB products are obtained from donors diagnosed with Sjogren’s syndrome, confirmed by the collection facility Medical Director, using Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved consent forms and protocols. Additional documentation, donor disease and treatment information, and high-resolution HLA typing (Class I and Class II alleles) may be available upon request. Donors are screened for HIV-1, HIV-2, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
