RoboSep™-S and EasySep™ Magnet Cleaning

Technical tip from our dedicated team of Product and Scientific Support specialists

Cleaning of RoboSep™-S is required for demo units returning to STEMCELL Technologies, for production units returning to STEMCELL Technologies for service, or prior to servicing the unit. Please read entire protocol before proceeding.

  1. Make sure the instrument is turned off and unplugged.
  2. For the Touchscreen, spray 70% ethanol or 70% isopropanol on a soft, clean paper towel prior to wiping it down.

Note: Directly spraying the Touchscreen may result in fluid seeping behind the external screen surface and into electrical components.
  3. Spray the external surfaces with 70% ethanol or 70% isopropanol. Wipe off the solution with a soft, clean paper towel. The RoboSep™-S can be wiped down with a dilute laboratory disinfectant solution (e.g. 1 in 10 dilution of bleach or sodium hypochlorite solution) but should be thoroughly wiped clean with water afterwards, as residual disinfectant may corrode the instrument.
  4. If biological material is spilled in the Carousel area of the instrument, a more thorough cleaning is needed. Use the following procedure:

    1. Unload and remove the Carousel.
    2. Remove the magnets from the Carousel and disinfect the Carousel and magnets with a dilute laboratory disinfectant solution (e.g. 1 in 10 dilution of bleach or sodium hypochlorite solution).
    3. Rinse* the Carousel and magnets* with water.
    4. Spray the Carousel and magnets with 70% ethanol or 70% isopropanol.
    5. Disinfect the spill area in the RoboSep™-S work surface tub with a dilute laboratory disinfectant solution (e.g. 1 in 10 dilution of bleach or sodium hypochlorite solution).
    6. Rinse the work surface tub with water.
    7. Spray the work surface tub with 70% ethanol or 70% isopropanol.
    8. Once the components have air-dried, reassemble the Carousel and magnets back into the instrument.
*Please note: After cleaning the magnet with dilute laboratory disinfectant solution, wipe off with a water-dampened cloth to avoid corrosion of metal parts. Do not submerge the magnet in liquid. This cleaning procedure applies to the following magnets: EasySep™ Magnet (Catalog #18000), "The Big Easy" EasySep™ Magnet (Catalog #18001), EasyEights™ EasySep™ Magnet (Catalog #18103), Easy 50 EasySep™ Magnet (Catalog #18002), and EasyPlate™ EasySep™ Magnet (Catalog #18102).

Flush the Hydraulic System:

Occasionally the hydraulic system will need to be flushed to clear out air bubbles trapped in the lines or to remove any salt buildup.

To flush the lines with de-ionized water, select “Maintenance” from the Home screen, then click on the “Basic Prime” button. Run the “Basic Prime” protocol 3 times to flush the hydraulic fluid lines.

Clean the Hydraulic System:

  1. Fill the hydraulic fluid bottle with 70% ethanol or 70% isopropanol and run the “Basic Prime” protocol 4 times.
  2. After the last “Basic Prime” protocol has run, leave the alcohol in the line for 1 - 2 hours.
  3. Clean the hydraulic fluid bottle and fill with de-ionized water.
  4. Run the “Basic Prime” protocol 5 times to remove any alcohol from the hydraulic system.
