Overview
Features:

• Readily oxidized by superoxide but less likely to be oxidized by ROS or RNS
• Oxidized product is highly fluorescent in cells
• Rapidly and selectively targeted to the mitochondria

Mitochondrial Superoxide Dye selectively targets the mitochondria of living cells. This dye becomes oxidized when it reacts with superoxide, a ROS, producing a red fluorescence. In the absence of superoxide, there is no absorption and negligible fluorescence. Though Mitochondrial Superoxide Dye is readily oxidized by superoxide, it is resistant to oxidation by other ROS and RNS. The high signal-to-noise ratio makes Mitochondrial Superoxide Dye a suitable reagent for superoxide detection in biological systems such as cellular respiration (Li et al. Front Immunol, 2018).
