New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in Preclinical Research

Discover global NAM adoption trends across biopharma, CRO, and chemical sectors in this webinar hosted live on April 8, 2026.

Key topics:

  • Insights from a global cross-industry survey on animal testing alternatives
  • NAM adoption roadmaps across small molecules, mAbs, and cell therapies
  • De-risking candidates with iPSC 3D models & high-content imaging
  • AI-driven analytics in early safety screening

New approach methodologies (NAMs) are gaining momentum as human-relevant in vitro models, AI-enabled analytics, and evolving regulatory support create new opportunities to improve drug discovery while reducing reliance on animal studies. As adoption grows, with rising clinical attrition driving demand, understanding where these models deliver the greatest ROI across diverse therapeutic modalities is critical for biopharma and CRO implementation.

In this webinar, Dr. Ludovico Buti presents findings from a global cross-industry survey on NAM adoption across biopharma, chemical, and other sectors. He explores modality-specific adoption roadmaps highlighting why monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and cell therapies are leading the transition and shares real-world examples of how advanced in vitro assays, iPSC derived 3D models such as organoids, high-content imaging, and AI-supported data analysis are improving early safety assessment and de-risking candidate selection in early predictive toxicology for biologics and small molecules.

Key Topics:

  • Findings from a global survey on the adoption of NAMs and alternatives to animal testing
  • Regulatory and technology trends driving the use of human-relevant in vitro models
  • Where NAMs fit across the drug discovery and development pipeline
  • Case studies using organoids and cell-based assays for biologics, cell therapies, and small molecules
  • How AI, imaging, and multimodal data improve predictive toxicology and decision-making
  • The future of integrated, human-centric drug discovery workflows

Speaker Biography

Ludovico Buti, PhD
Senior Research Lead, Discovery and Safety Assessment, Charles River Laboratories

Ludovico Buti is a Senior Research Leader at Charles River Laboratories (CRL) and a member of the company’s Scientific Advisory Board on new approach methodologies (NAMs). Ludo brings over ten years of experience in drug discovery and translational research across multiple therapeutic areas, including vaccines and oncology. Prior to joining CRL, he held research appointments at MIT and the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the University of Oxford. In his current role, he leads the development and application of human‑relevant experimental platforms, such as iPSC‑derived cells, organoids, and 3D systems, designed to better reflect human biology. These advanced models support earlier, more informed decision‑making by enhancing predictivity in safety and efficacy assessments and derisk compounds during pre-clinical development.
