2007-12-19 Generation of human induced pluripotent stem cells
In two simultaneous publications on November 30th, 2007, groups from the University of Wisconsin, USA and Kyoto University in Japan demonstrated techniques to reprogram human fibroblasts into pluripotent stem cells by ectopic expression of 4 genes. The resulting cells, called induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) appear to be biologically identical to hESCs although further work is required to confirm this.

In this webinar, we will discuss StemCell Technologies' mTeSR™1 and BD Biosciences’ BD Matrigel™ hESC-qualified Matrix, which together provide a complete environment for the feeder-independent culture and maintenance of hES cells. Cells cultured in this environment exhibit undifferentiated morphology, consistently high expression of pluripotency markers and karyotypic stability as well as the ability to differentiate into endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm as demonstrated in the teratoma assay.
