This antibody reacts to the ε-chain of the CD3/T-cell antigen receptor (TCR) complex. CD3 is expressed on 70-80% of peripheral blood lymphocytes and on 10-20% of thymocytes. The CD3/TCR complex binds peptide antigen bound to MHC antigens on the surface of antigen-presenting cells. CD3ε is involved in signal transduction mediated by the activated complex, which leads to T cell activation.
