Neural Stem Cell Expansion & Maintenance
Neural stem and progenitor cells are maintained and expanded as spherical aggregates termed “neurospheres” or as adherent monolayers. NeuroCult® media are optimized for the culture of human, mouse and rat neural stem cells isolated from normal and tumor tissues. These standardized media enable efficient expansion of neural stem cells in culture while maintaining self-renewal, proliferation and differentiation potential.

NeuroCult® Differentiation Kits are designed to differentiate neural stem and progenitor cells into neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. Optimized formulations are available for human, mouse and rat cells.

Colony assays for neural stem cells

NeuroCult Neural Colony-Forming Cell Assay
The NeuroCult® Neural Colony-Forming Cell or NCFC Assay is a simple, single-step assay which allows the identification and quantification of neural stem and progenitor cells based on their proliferative potential. The NCFC Assay is more stringent than the Neurosphere Assay in its evaluation of the long-term proliferative and self-renewal capabilities of cells, and as such is able to use inherent differences in the proliferative ability of these cells to distinguish between them.

Neural stem cell detection

ALDEFLUOR – Detect Neural Stem & Progenitor Cells
The ALDEFLUOR® reagent system is a non-immunological method to identify stem/progenitor cells on the basis of their aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) activity. It has been reported that ALDEFLUOR® can be used for the identification and isolation of viable neural stem and progenitor cells. Only cells with an intact cellular membrane can retain the ALDEFLUOR® reaction product, therefore only viable ALDHbr cells are identified. Dead and/or dying cells without intact cellular membranes will not be counted.
