Mammary epithelium is composed of a hierarchy of cells that spans from the most primitive mammary stem cells to differentiated myoepithelial and luminal subtypes.

Enrichment

Enrich human or mouse mammary epithelial progenitor and stem cells using various cell surface markers and the EasySep^® magnetic-based cell separation system.

Maintenance

MammoCult^®, a defined and highly enriched medium, is ideal for the culture of primary human mammary stem and progenitor cells and breast cancer cell lines as mammospheres and tumorspheres. EpiCult^®-C is specially formulated to culture human mammary epithelial cells and EpiCult^®-B media are optimized to detect mammary progenitor cells in Ma-CFC assays.

Identification

ALDH has been reported to be a marker of normal and cancerous mammary precursor cells as well as a strong predictor of breast cancer patient outcome. Identify viable cells on the basis of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) activity with ALDEFLUOR^®.

Dissociation

Reproducibly process a variety of solid tissues to generate a single cell suspension using a variety of optimized products and procedures.

Detection

Mammary epithelial cells can be evaluated using a range of detection antibodies. Engrafted mouse mammary glands obtained in mammary repopulating unit in vivo assay can be better evaluated after preservation with Carnoy fixative and staining with Carmine Alum.
