Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is an intermediate filament protein strongly expressed by astrocytes. This antibody is useful for the detection of GFAP in astrocytes, certain other astroglia in the central nervous system, satellite cells in peripheral ganglia and non-myelinating Schwann cells in peripheral nerves. This chicken polyclonal antibody detects GFAP from human, rat, mouse, cat and other species. IgY is the chicken homologue of IgG and can be used in the same general way, although this type of antibody does not bind to Protein A or Protein G.
