Human CD4 is a 59 kDa single-chain transmembrane glycoprotein. It is expressed on most thymocytes and on a subset of T cells. Monocytes also express CD4 at low levels. CD4 binds to a non-polymorphic region of MHC II and acts as a co-receptor with the TCR in MHC II restricted antigen recognition. It is used as a marker of MHC II restricted T cells. Clone L120 recognizes a different epitope than the anti-CD4 antibody used in STEMCELL’s RosetteSep®, StemSep® and EasySep® cell separation cocktails and is recommended for detection of CD4+ T cells in enriched or depleted cell populations.
