Tutorial: Mammary Epithelial Cell Colony Identification

The mammary colony forming cell (Ma-CFC) assay is used to quantitate and evaluate mammary progenitor cells in an in vitro system. Ma-CFCs are grown in EpiCultĀ®-B (Human) Catalog #05601 in conjunction with a layer of irradiated 3T3 fibroblasts (feeders) cells. After a week in culture, Ma-CFCs develop into discrete adherent colonies that can be further analyzed using immunocytochemistry for the presence of epithelial-specific markers (i.e. keratins 14, 18 and 19).
