Currently, we have an opening for a Scientist (Antibody and Hybridoma Technology Platforms) in our Vancouver office.  This position is responsible for the development of products related to antibody and hybridoma technology platforms and their associated instrumentation. The successful applicant will help build the antibody business and its ancillary product lines by developing novel antibodies using conventional and recombinant methodologies and identifying new applications for antibodies. The position provides top-level technical support to customers and may function as a Field Applications/Product Specialist to support STEMCELL’s ClonaCell™ reagents and instrumentation product lines. A strong background in antibody development and characterization is required.

Duties:

  • Responsible for developing novel antibodies by conventional and recombinant methods, and transition from basic research to tech transfer, launch and technical support
  • Design experiments for multiple projects related to hybridoma/recombinant cell line expression and screening with input from Supervisor
  • Design and optimize antibody conjugation and purification protocols
  • May function as a Field Applications/Product Specialist as needed
  • Supervise one or more laboratory staff
  • Generate intellectual property, assist in writing patents, evaluate new technologies
  • Responsible for project research budget
  • Adheres to company Quality program requirements

Qualifications:

  • PhD (or equivalent) with 2-4 years direct experience working with antibodies
  • Experience with different immunization methodologies (e.g. native or engineered antigen over-expressing cells, cell membranes, DNA immunization, MAP system)
  • Well-versed in hybridoma screening methods (e.g. FMAT, ELISA, flow cytometry)
  • Experience generating and expressing recombinant antibodies
  • Skilled in antibody characterization methods, including affinity measurements (e.g. BIAcore)  
  • Proven ability in purification and chemical conjugation of antibodies
  • Strong knowledge of recombinant DNA technology
  • Experience in hybridoma scale-up and large-scale purification an asset
  • Works well in a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Has supervised laboratory personnel
