Currently, we have an opening for a Scientist (Epithelial Cell Research) in our Vancouver office.

This position is responsible for the development and technical support of a number of products specifically for epithelial stem/progenitor cell research and products related to media and cell culture environments for intestinal/gut tissue. The position will also develop and support products for prostate, pulmonary, stomach and other epithelial tissues. The position acts as the in-house expert for that intestinal and related epithelial product line(s) and the scientific field it services. The position provides top level technical support to customers and interacts with other departments; providing both technical support and new opportunities to marketing and business development. The position gives external presentations and is a scientific ambassador for the company in the field directly related to the product line. The position establishes successful collaborations with external labs. The position may be responsible for evaluating technologies for business development. The position will also supervise/mentor and train lab staff, providing in-house technical training.

Duties:

  • Fully responsible for developing a new product line for intestinal/gut cell research including performance criteria, research plan, quality of design, launch and technical support
  • Responsible for developing and supporting existing products in mammary, prostate, lung cell research
  • Responsible for project planning, including literature review and submissions for grant funding
  • Supervise a team of 1 or more laboratory staff
  • Deliver internal and external scientific presentations
  • Identify new products including potential new suppliers of product components
  • Track competitor activity and trends
  • Understand the field of intestinal/gut and epithelial cell research and applications, contribute to product development by drafting business plans and conduct market analyses
  • Produce all technical documentation for the intestinal/gut and epithelial cell research product line(s)
  • Provide sales/distributor training for products and fields of epithelial cell biology
  • Responsible for project research budget
  • Support business development, perform literature and patent searches, evaluate new technologies
  • Support company Quality initiatives and adhere to Quality requirements
  • Act as scientific ambassador for the company: makes external presentations, publishes abstracts and articles, establishes and manages external collaborations

Qualifications:

  • PhD (or equivalent) with 3+ years in a field of epithelial cell biology specifically in intestinal/gut stem cell research.
  • Experience in the mammary, prostate or pulmonary stem cell research and in a field related to STEMCELL products is an asset
  • Accomplished independent researcher in epithelial cell research, particularly intestinal/gut cell research or relevant specialized field and possibly in product/technique development experience
  • Extensive in vitro and tissue culture experience is an asset
  • Works well both independently and within a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Has authored academic publications and PhD thesis or equivalent research report
  • Skilled presenter able to deliver technical summaries of data
  • Has trained personnel in laboratory techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Established a scientific reputation in the field
  • Established successful external collaborations
